The St. Paul Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, has voted to endorse the Labor Day mass anti-war march planned for the opening day of the Republican National Convention. The event will begin at the State Capitol at 11 am on Monday, September 1.

The resolution urges union members and their families to join the protest. The vote to endorse the rally was taken at July meeting of the Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation, which represents more than 30,000 union members in the East Metro area of the Twin Cities.

A fundraising silent auction and social will be held at the Black Dog Coffee and Wine Bar in St. Paul to support the mass antiwar march planned for the opening day of the Republican National Convention.

Organizers will announce today that the city of St. Paul has issued a formal permit for the September 1st anti-war protest set to mark the opening day of the Republican National Convention.

The Republican National Convention will take place in St. Paul, MN beginning on Labor Day, 2008. Choosing to begin on Labor Day is an insult to all working people who have been suffering under Republican policies. We need to join the thousands that will be out in the street. As the economy is falling apart Washington continues to fund the war and bailout corporations rather than helping working people who are losing jobs to outsourcing and their houses to predatory lenders. Twin Cities unions are organizing a labor contingent for the September 1 march.

The Colombia Action Network is issuing the following call for protests at John McCain's campaign events and at the Republican National Convention, September 1-4 in St. Paul, MN. McCain arrived in Colombia on Tuesday and is promoting his close relationship to death squad leader Colombian President Uribe as a campaign issue.
