Rally & March: Stand Up for the Right to March on the RNC to Stop the War07/01/2008 - 11:00 07/01/2008 - 12:30 Etc/GMT-6 Rally at the MN State Capitol building, followed by a march to the Xcel Energy Center (future location of the RNC), and return to the State Capitol. With 5 years of war and occupation in Iraq, it is important for the anti-war movement to have a major national protest outside the Republican National Convention. St. Paul city officials have dragged their feet on granting permits for a major march on September 1. The Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War will march the Sept. 1 route regularly between now and the convention to claim the roads to the Xcel Center for the movement. These marches are part of a legal strategy to secure permits for the Sept. 1 anti-war march, and we need everyone to join us.

With that in mind, we have worked for common ground with other forces to ensure that our various projects work in concert, with a commitment to ensure no one's plans are disrupted or undermined by fellow protesters. Our coalition agrees to the following principles for the September 1, 2008, March on the RNC. (1) our solidarity will be based on respect for diversity of tactics and the plans of other groups. (2) the actions and tactics used will be organized to maintain a separation of time or space. (3) any debates or criticisms will stay internal to the movement, avoiding any public or media denunciations of fellow activists and events. (4) we oppose any state repression of dissent, including surveillance, infiltration, disruption and violence. We agree not to assist law enforcement actions against activists and others.
