News Advisory: Silent auction on August 15 will support the September 1st March on the RNCA fundraising silent auction and social will be held at the Black Dog Coffee and Wine Bar in St. Paul to support the mass antiwar march planned for the opening day of the Republican National Convention. The event begins at 7 pm at 308 Prince Street (the corner of 4th & Broadway) in St. Paul. Attendees can place bids on restaurant meals, massages, private wine tasting, arts and crafts, use of vacation homes and more. All proceeds will support the mass antiwar demonstration planned for Monday, September 1st beginning at 11 am at the State Capitol. The march is sponsored by the Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War. “The Democratic and Republican parties receive millions of dollars for their conventions,” said organizer Meredith Aby . “Our event will highlight that to build a movement for real change we need people-to-people fundraising for a cause that can benefit everyone.” The September 1st protest, supported by a wide range of local, regional and national organizations has been called to send a massive anti-war message on the opening day of the RNC.

With that in mind, we have worked for common ground with other forces to ensure that our various projects work in concert, with a commitment to ensure no one's plans are disrupted or undermined by fellow protesters. Our coalition agrees to the following principles for the September 1, 2008, March on the RNC. (1) our solidarity will be based on respect for diversity of tactics and the plans of other groups. (2) the actions and tactics used will be organized to maintain a separation of time or space. (3) any debates or criticisms will stay internal to the movement, avoiding any public or media denunciations of fellow activists and events. (4) we oppose any state repression of dissent, including surveillance, infiltration, disruption and violence. We agree not to assist law enforcement actions against activists and others. User login |
